Tenerife is an island of contrasts from the barren, dry mountainous region of the south to the tropical splendour of the valleys in the north. From tiny, unspoiled mountain villages to historic colonial towns and lively sophisticated resorts, the island has such variety that there is always something more to discover. Tenerife is, famously, a sun- worshipper’s paradise with an excellent year-round climate but, when you tire of lounging by the pool or dozing on a sun-drenched balcony, there’s still plenty to see and do, from admiring the views from the magnificent Mount Teide, to exhilarating whale- and dolphin-spotting trips to sight-seeing in the stunning area of La Gomera and Masca mountain villages.
Set on the island’s south coast you will find Playa de Las Americas which is the livest resort on the island, offering sandy beaches with watersports, a vast choice of shop, restaurants, nightlife and the Aquapark water park which is a must for kids of all ages.
Three kilometres from Playa de Las Americas is the more subdued Los Cristianos with its attractive beach promenade lined with bars and cafes. This is a slightly quieter resort with activity around the fine sandy beach and port complemented with chic shopping and some excellent restaurants. Playa de La Arena is perfect if you want to relax and soak up the sun. This hilly resort has a beautiful and exotic black sand beach fringed with carefully tended lawns and tropical gardens. You will find a vibrant commercial centre with a good choice of restaurants and shops right beside the beach and, just as the sun sets, you will love the great views and mountain walks.
Los Gigantes is one of the Canary Islands’ most beautiful spots with its glittering black, sandy beaches, vertical cliffs, and crystal clear waters plus a popular marina area with a broad selection of local restaurants and bars.
